இந்திய சீன எல்லையில் அமைந்திருக்கும் நாதுலா என்ற கணவாயை இன்று வரை சீனாவிடமிருந்து பாதுகாத்துவருவதும், சீன வீரர்களை நடுங்க வைத்துக்கொண்டிருப்பதும் எது தெரியுமா?

இந்தியாவின் பிரமோஸ் ஏவுகனைகளோ,

சுகாய் போர் விமானங்களோ... அல்ல.

சாதாரண இந்திய சிப்பாய் ஒருவரின் ஆவி.

அந்த ஆவிக்குச் சொந்தக்காரர் 'பாபா ஹர்பஜன் சிங்'.

இங்குள்ள (சிக்கிமில் உள்ள) இராணுவ வாகனங்களில் எல்லாம் இவருடைய படத்தினைக் காணலாம்.

ஹர்பஜன் சிங் பஞ்சாப்பில் 1941-ஆம் ஆண்டு பிறந்தார். இராணுவத்தில் பஞ்சாப் ரெஜிமென்டில் 23-வது பட்டாலியனில் சேர்ந்தார். . 1968-ஆம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் மாதம் 04-ஆம் தேதி கோவேறு கழுதைகள் தொகுதி ஒன்றுடன் பட்டாலியன் தலைமையகத்திலிருந்து சென்றபோது மழையால் ஏற்பட்ட திடீர் வெள்ளத்தில் அடித்துச்செல்லப்பட்டார். அவரது உடலை தேடினார்கள். உடல் கிடைக்கவில்லை.

அந்நிலையில், வீரர் ஒருவரின் கனவில் தோன்றிய ஹர்பஜன் சிங், தன்னுடைய ஆயுதங்கள் இந்த இடத்தில் இருக்கின்றது, தன்னுடைய உடல் இந்த இடத்தில் கிடக்கின்றது என்றும் சொல்லியிருக்கின்றார்.

காணாமல் போய் நான்கு நாட்கள் கழித்து அவரது உடல் கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இராணுவ மரியாதையுடன் உடல் நல்லடக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டது.

இரவில் வெள்ளை உடை அணிந்த ஒருவர் குதிரையில் ரோந்துப்பணியில் சுற்றுவதாக சீனர்கள் பலமுறைத் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

இதனால் ஹர்பஜன் சிங் மீது பயம் கலந்த பக்தி இருநாட்டு வீரர்களுக்கும் ஏற்பட்டது.

இந்திய வீரர்கள் நாதுலாவில் அவருக்கென ஆலயம் கட்டி வழிபட்டனர். (சீன வீரர்களும் அங்கு ஹர்பஜன் சிங்கை வழிபடுகின்றனர்.) வழிபாட்டுத் தலத்தில் மூன்று அறைகள் வரிசையாக உள்ளன. அதில் மத்திய அறையில் அவர் படம் மாட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. அவரது சிலையும் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இந்த அறையில் கோவில் போன்றே தினமும் பூஜைகள் நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன. வலது புற அறையானது அவரது அலுவலமாகும். அங்கு மேசை, நாற்காலிகள் போடப்பட்டுள்ளது. அவர் அங்கு அமர்ந்து தனது அலுவலக வேலைகளை பார்ப்பதாக கூறுகிறார்கள். இடது புற அறையில் அவர் பயன்படுத்திய பொருட்கள் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

அங்கு தினமும் அவருடைய பூட்ஸ்-க்கு பாலீஷ் செய்து வைக்கப்படுகின்றது. படுக்கை விரிப்பும் நன்கு விரித்து வைக்கப்படுகின்றது. மறுநாள் காலையில், அவருடைய பூட்ஸ் மண்ணாகி இருக்கும். விரித்துவைத்தப் படுக்கை கலைந்து இருக்கும்.

ஹர்பஜன் சிங் கட்டுப்பாடு நிறைந்தவர். இரவு காவலில் இருக்கும் ஏதேனும் வீரர் கண்ணயர்ந்து தூங்கி விட்டால், அவர் கன்னத்தில் ஹர்பஜன் சிங் அறைவதுண்டு. ஹர்பஜன் சிங் தங்கள் மத்தியில் இன்னும் உயிரோடு இருப்பதாக வீரர்கள் நினைத்ததால், அவர் இறந்ததைப் பதிவு செய்யவில்லை. அவருக்கு இராணுவம் தொடர்ந்து சம்பளத்தை வழங்கியது. அவர் திருமணம் செய்யாததால் அவரது தாயாருக்கு அவரது சம்பளத்தை அனுப்பி வைத்தது இந்திய இராணுவம்.

ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் செப்டம்பர் 14-ஆம் தேதி அவர் பெயரில் அமிர்தசரஸ் செல்லும் இரயிலில் பஞ்சாப் மாநிலம் கபுர்தாலாவில் உள்ள அவர் கிராமத்திற்கு அவருக்கு என டிக்கெட் பதிவு செய்யப்படும். அவருடைய இருக்கைக்குக் கீழ் அவருடைய பெட்டி வைக்கப்படும். இரயில் படுக்கையில் அவர் படுக்கை விரிக்கப்படும். அவருக்குத் துணையாக மூன்று வீரர்களும் உடன் சென்று அவருடைய குடும்பத்தாரிடம் இந்தப்பெட்டியை ஒப்படைப்பார்கள்.

பின்னர் இரண்டு மாதங்கள் கழித்து அவர்கள் அந்தப்பெட்டியை வாங்கிக்கொண்டு நாதுலா திரும்புவார்கள்.

ஆவியான இவருக்கு கெளரவ கேப்டன் பதவியும், பின்னர் கெளரவ மேஜர் பொறுப்பும் வழங்கப்பட்டது. மேலும் இவருக்கு மகாவீர் சக்ரா விருதும் வழங்கப்பட்டது.

நாதுலாவில் இருக்கும் போர் நினைவிடத்தில், முதலாவதாக இவரது பெயரையே பொறிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

பாபா ஹர்பஜன் சிங் பெட்டிப் படுக்கைகள் ஊருக்கு வரும்போது அவருடைய கிராமத்தில் விழா எடுக்கின்றார்கள்.

இந்தியா-சீனா எல்லைப்பகுதி வீரர்கள் சந்திப்பின் போது ஹர்பஜன் சிங்கிற்கு ஒரு இருக்கையை சீனர்கள் ஒதுக்குவதாகவும் சொல்கிறார்கள்.

ஹர்பஜன் சிங் சொல்லை மீறி செயல்பட எந்த படைவீரரும் தயாராக இல்லை. நாதுலா மட்டுமல்ல, வடக்கு சிக்கிம்மில் உள்ள இராணுவத்தினரும் தங்கள் கூடாரத்திற்கு வெளியே ஒரு சிறு விளக்கை ஏற்றி, அதனை பாபா ஹர்பஜன் சிங் என்று கருதி வழிபட்டு வருகின்றனர்.

பாபா ஹர்பஜன் சிங் எல்லையில் காவல் புரியும் வீரர்களுக்கு காவல் தெய்வமாகவே இருக்கின்றார்.

The Story Of The Ghost Of Baba Harbhajan Singh Who Served As An Indian Army Soldier Still Protects India’s Border

It is often said that one who dies for the country will remain immortal. ‘Amar Jawan’ is the term associated with soldiers who sacrifice their lives to the nation. Here is an interesting story of a soldier by name Harbhajan Singh served Indian army until 1967 and is believed to protect the Indian soldiers and the border even after his accidental death!

The Inside Story

Harbhajan Singh was born in Punjab in the year 1941, joined Indian army in the year in 1956 and served with the 14 Rajput Regiment. In the year 1967, he met with an accident and slipped in a glacier and died when leading a herd of mules carrying supplies at Nathu-La pass.

Though his body was recovered three days later and cremated with National honors people of Nathu-La pass aren’t ready to believe that he is dead! Reason being he is believed to wake up soldiers on duty at this post and give them alert message about expected enemy attacks! After his death, he came in the dreams of a soldier and asked him to construct a shrine in his name. As a result of today, Nathu-La Pass has a shrine built in name of Baba Harbhajan Singh.

Dime a dozen Stories of Harbhajan Singh waking up soldiers in the night and giving them instructions to patrol the border is common among the troops in this region. Interestingly Indian Army has also accepted that Baba Harbhajan Singh is alive and he was given regular promotions and until he retired with Honorary Captain post. Till his retirement every year on 11th September, a train carrying ‘his’ belongings used to depart for his hometown accompanied with fellow soldiers, and reach his home with the belief he is going on vacation. Even the Chinese troops during flag meet pay their respect to Baba Harbhajan Singh! He has been considered as Holy Saint by people in the region and Indian soldiers respect him as ‘Baba’

The following quote is seen in a banner placed near the temple built for Baba Harbhajan Singh, which is truly the mantra every Indian Soldier recite:

“Oh Lord Shiva Grant me the boon, that I will never deviate from doing the good deed, That I shall not fear when I go into combat And with determination, I will be victorious. That I may teach myself this greed alone, to learn only Thy praises. And when the last days of my life come I may die in the might of battlefield”

Friends, in reality, whether Baba Harbhajan Singh’s spirit exists or not, but the spirit with which millions of Indian soldiers are fighting it out to protect our borders definitely gets a morale boost with such a belief.
